Symphogen Granted European Patent Covering Use of Polyclonal Antibodies for Allergy Indications

COPENHAGEN, Denmark – May 7, 2007. Symphogen A/S announced today that it has been granted European Patent number 1,283,720 B1 for use of polyclonal antibodies in allergy indications. The patent broadly covers the manufacture and use of allergen-specific polyclonal antibodies for the prevention and treatment of allergic reactions. Symphogen holds equivalent patents in the United States and India and has pending patent applications in additional countries.

“The receipt of this patent is a validation of our aggressive and proactive patenting strategy. Symphogen’s intellectual property position is further strengthened in allergy, as it broadly covers all forms of polyclonal antibodies and we now have patents protecting their use in the major markets of the United States and Europe,” said Jens Viktor Nørgaard, Director of Intellectual Property Rights at Symphogen.

“Our solid patent portfolio for recombinant antibodies against allergy, as well as for our proprietary antibody discovery and manufacturing platforms, Symplex™ and Sympress™, makes Symphogen an attractive partner for companies who want to generate superior antibodies for allergy and other indications,” says John Haurum, M.D., Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer of Symphogen. “This new class of biopharmaceutical may be a more effective treatment option for both allergies, cancer and infectious disease, because of their ability to capture the specificity and diversity of the natural human immune response. There is a significant medical need for therapeutics that can better neutralize antigens that cause allergies, and we believe that our technology has the potential to meet this need.”
