Data Engineer – IT Department (A 2 years -Temporary Position)

The position as our new Data Engineer, supports design and implementation of scientific data management (SDM) principles in the CMC area. In close cooperation with the SDM core team, you will be crucial in defining data-pipelines together with subject matter experts and scripting workflows using e.g., Python, SQL, SCALA in an Azure Databricks environment. The position is a 2-years temporary position.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Analyze and organize raw data
  • Build and design data pipelines
  • Maintaining datasets
  • Evaluate business needs and objectives
  • Build algorithms and prototypes
  • Extracting, transforming and loading data from the various data sources
  • Integrating data transfers between internal and external systems and applications
  • Explore ways to enhance data quality and reliability
  • Identify opportunities for data acquisition
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SME) and IT-architects

As we are a small department, we expect you to take broad responsibility in the development and maintenance of our data foundation and possibly support the Research and other function in a parallel system set-up for sample-and data management in this area.

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in bioinformatics, biotechnology or similar
  • Strong analytic skills related to working with datasets
  • Knowledge of programming in Python
  • Skills in data querying, SQL, etc.
  • Dealing with large and complex data sets and performance tuning
  • Comprehensive understanding of data engineering/management, business processes and technology

It will be considered an advantage if you have experience with:

  • Knowledge of Databricks and Spark
  • Cloud Services (Azure DevOps, Azure SaaS, etc.)
  • Experience with data modelling and leveraging of large volumes of data is preferred
