(Senior) Scientist for Analytical Characterization with experience in mass spectrometry

Back to Careers

The analytical development department comprises 25 scientists and technicians whereof 8 are focused on characterization. The department is specializing in protein analysis to support characterization, method development, troubleshooting, process development, validation, stability studies, and more.

The vacant position is in the mass spectrometry team where we are seeking a candidate with experience within both peptide and intact MS characterization of biologics e.g. monoclonal and bispecific antibodies as well as antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs).

The MS laboratory is equipped with a state-of-the-art Orbitrap mass spectrometry platform where most chromatographic methods are hyphenated to the mass spectrometers (SEC-MS, CIEX-MS, RPC-MS and CE-MS). Data processing is performed in Chromeleon or Protein Metrics software (Byosphere Enterprise). As a (senior) scientist you are responsible for the characterization strategy, development of new methods, implementation of new instruments, troubleshooting, and support to both research and CMC projects. The laboratory work is performed by our experienced technicians, while data processing is either performed by the scientist or technician, depending on the scope. From time to time, some work in the lab can be expected for the scientist, mainly related to development tasks. In addition, the role includes coordination between multiple stakeholders in different project groups.

The Analytical characterization team is also responsible for biophysical characterization of our drug candidates, why understanding of biophysical characterization of biologics is an advantage. Relevant experience include the following equipment; dynamic light scattering (DLS), subvisible particle measurements (MFI, Flowcam) and nano-differential scanning fluorimetry (Prometheus).

As a person you are highly motivated, proactive, and enjoy new challenges while working in a structured and organized environment. You will have the opportunity to work alongside a team of experienced scientists, technicians and industry experts, fostering a collaborative atmosphere that encourages knowledge-sharing and innovation while supporting the research and CMC projects and each other.

Required Qualifications

  • Relevant education such as Ph.D., cand. scient, cand.polyt., cand. pharm. or equivalent
  • Experience with mass spectrometric characterization of biopharmaceuticals preferably antibodies by LC-MS/(MS) (peptide mapping, intact mass)
  • Experience with relevant equipment e.g. Orbitrap mass spectrometry and (U)HPLC in general
  • Advanced knowledge about physical and chemical properties of proteins
  • Strong communication and language skills, written and verbal (English)
  • Self-driven, highly motivated team player with commitment, initiative and humor

Preferred Qualification

  • Experience with developability assessment of antibodies
  • Experience with CMC development of biopharmaceuticals preferably antibodies and ADCs
  • Knowledge of biophysical characterization of biopharmaceuticals and relevant equipment
  • Knowledge of general analytical techniques e.g. HPLC, CE-SDS, iCIEF, concentration determination

 We offer

  • A challenging and versatile job in an innovative, focused and committed biotech environment
  • Competitive salary based on qualifications, and flexible working hours
  • Strong cross functional teamwork, room for individual performance and development, and passionate, inspiring, and fun colleagues
